A Valuable Leader Is A Leader Who Values

March 27, 2023

If you have kept up with my last two blogs, you are aware that I have encouraged you that when it comes to leadership you need to look at the person in the mirror and that leadership starts in the home. Yes that was on purpose to prepare you for todays topic on being a leader who values people.

Let me explain something quick. If you don’t invest in yourself or aren’t willing to bet on yourself, you can’t give what you don’t have. You are a person of value that has so much potential that needs to be tapped into. Also, if you want to lead others and use your influence to impact, but are not willing to lead in your home and be a consistent leader you have an uphill journey ahead of you.

At the heart of leadership, it’s all about people. It’s not about the product, procedures, the cause, or the company. Its about adding value, multiplying value and investing in people. Let me say it a different way, it’s about serving, loving and being generous with people.

Too many leaders are banging their heads against a wall because their priorities and purposes are distorted. When we see people as a means to an end, a liability, or just another resource on our team or company we are not only not leading well but we are setting ourselves up for failure and others up for failure as well.

The job of a leader is not to be served and create a bunch of followers, but to serve others and create more leaders.

As always my vision is to inspire you to lead well. So, if your feeling stuck, wanting meaningful leadership and want to be a leader who is making a difference beyond yourself then take note.

  1. Commit to being a leader of value. You have been given a potential that is unique to you. You have strengths, skills, and talents that need to be developed and unleashed. Invest in yourself.
  2. Commit to valuing others. Those around you are people not to be used but to be valued. Everyone has a uniqueness and something to offer. People are precious with God given potential.
  3. Commit to adding value. People are not projects to be worked on, but people who are on a journey and growing. We are all learning and getting better. We should serve, love, and encourage people so they are better than when we met them. Believe in people more than they believe in themselves.
  4. Commit to multiply the value. Don’t just help people tap into there potential, but help people maximize their potential. Invest in people so the return is not for you but our communities, our future and the leaders to be. Planting seeds to grow for years to come.

Make these commitments, turn them into disciplines and make them your values. You will become a leader who not only leads well but will create ripples in this life that the impact can’t even be measured. Lead with others in mind and your success will become about significance that leaves a legacy.

Grow as you go!
