In leadership there are so many important factors at play but understanding that leadership starts in the home is fundamental.
Let’s get something out of the way first. The question here is not about whether you are a leader or not, it’s about who are you leading? How well are you leading? And are you growing along the way?
So, do you want to get intentional about leading and don’t know where to start? Then start in the home.
A leader needs to remember three things and yes there is an importance in the order,
Lead yourself.
Lead your family.
Lead others.
If you want to be an effective leader you need to get all your ducks in order and understand the importance of leading your family.
It’s your responsibility to be a leader in your family and no one else’s.
Everything matters. Yes, that includes what is happening in your family.
Don’t be one person at home and someone else out in the world.
When it comes to leading don’t be a person of many hats, be one person. Be the same person everywhere.
Be encouraged if it works in the home it will work outside the home. There needs to be congruency between your personal life and your professional life.
Be known for your character, integrity, someone who is trustworthy, encourages, serves and does what is right. Leadership is about the people, let’s not forget that.
You can build many things but if your home suffers is it worth it?
Live by the words that family comes first and when making decisions ask yourself does it help my family or not?
Are you leading well? Are you leading your family?
I leave you with these additional leadership questions to ask yourself.
Am I loving my family? Am I supporting them? Am I taking care of them? Am I stewarding my resources? Do I problem solve? Am I building them up? Am I dreaming and setting a family vision? Do I communicate and inspire them?
It’s never too late to change and start.
Let’s go and Lead Well,
