Stop Limiting Yourself

May 20, 2024

Remember when you were a kid and trying new things was the norm? We were constantly learning and developing new skills.  We would go to school and play a sport that was completely new to us in gym class.  We would go to a friend’s house and eat whatever their parents made even if we had never tried it before.  We entered junior high having no idea what it was like to have lockers and to change classrooms for every class, but we still did it. And then as we got older, we may have gone to college or university without any idea of what it would look like, but yet we still made it happen.

Think about your first day at a new job.  Did you know everything about the place?  Did you know your coworkers or what your boss was going to be like?  You didn’t know all the details, but you figured them out along the way.

As we get further on in life, maybe we get married, have kids, find a steady job and all of a sudden, we stop learning and trying new things.  We find ourselves in a comfortable place in life. We drive the same way to work every day, we have similar evening routines with our friends or family and we settle in for the next 30 or 40  years before we retire. We are “happy”. But are we really?

Personally, I believe we were created for so much more than to coast through our life being “happy”. We were created to impact others, be the best versions of ourselves, create things, and change the world in small and big ways! I believe to start living your life in a way where you are pursuing your potential rather than settling the first step is to change up your routine.  Routines are great, don’t get me wrong.  But you need to have the right types of routines, and if you aren’t living your life to the max then I would suggest that your routines are probably capping your potential.

Your routines need a shake up! Get out there and try something new! You can start with something small like taking a different route to work, or instead of watching a show after you eat dinner, go for a walk. Or you can start with something big! Maybe you need to look for a job that’s actually within your passion, start that side hustle you’ve always wanted to, or get that gym membership and make some new positive friends.  Whatever you decide to change up it will help increase the energy and excitement in your life.  You will feel more alive and I believe you will have started the journey towards maximizing your life!
