What is excellence? A dictionary definition I read was, the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. So here is another question, do you pursue excellence in your life, and does it show in everything you do? I believe so many of us are missing the mark because one, we have not made it a core value or two, we are not aware of what it takes to live it out.
Can I bring to your attention today that there is one thing that will prevent you from excellence, which I call the enemy of excellence. I believe being casual is the enemy of excellence.
I have seen it repeatedly where a casual life lacks purpose, and without purpose you don’t give room for doing anything extremely good. It’s all about how you think about it. It starts with a casual mindset that leads to a casual life and a casual life will sooner or later start moving backwards and not forward. There is no standing still.
What’s the big deal you ask? If you have bought into casual, you may not realize that you are buying into coasting in life. I believe we all have God given potential inside of us and as a friend of mine says you were created on purpose for a purpose. Here is the catch though, there is nothing casual about that.
You might be stuck in casual if:
Doing the minimal is better than going the extra mile.
Instead of giving your best, your ok with just fine.
You focus on good enough versus great.
Choosing comfort over stretching.
Settling over choosing to pursue your potential.
Making it about you and not others.
Casual has no urgency in life. The person believes there is always a tomorrow. Casual is a toxic mindset that convinces us that what we do doesn’t matter. It gets us to believe that life should be easy and takes the fight out of us. Casual can become a habit, a bad habit that leads to living an average life, which leads to insignificance.
You are a person of value that was created with potential that can leave a mark on this earth. Live a life that exemplifies excellence. Don’t settle for casual. Live on purpose. Value people and choose to become the best version of yourself. Go do something, but do it in away that is outstanding and extremely good.
Grow as you go!
