The Secret Sauce

April 24, 2023

We all have had that amazing meal or delicious desert and wondered what’s the secret sauce that makes this so good. Or maybe you have an eye on someone famous or someone who is steps ahead of you in life and also wonder what’s that one thing they did. Sometimes we can have that attitude towards athletes, if I only knew that one thing I would be able to play just like them!

The answer to these questions may definitely vary and it is intriguing to ponder what makes something or someone successful. But can I give you a little warning? We need to be careful with this type of approach as it can plant the attitude of a get rich quick or short cut mentality to get what we want. And what’s wrong with that you ask? Well there is something to be said about embracing the journey, learning the skills, growing as you go and mastering your craft as you tap into your potential. Let’s be leaders who build foundations for things to last.

Now wait just a moment though. What if there is a secret sauce to becoming a successful leader or growing as a person. I want to share with you that secret sauce and I believe if you apply it in all areas of you your life you will win.

The secret to your growth in all areas of your life is hidden in your daily practices.

Did you catch the key words? Daily practices! What we do daily matters. We are the sum of our habits from the past and our future will be determined by what we choose to do today, tomorrow, and daily.

But just as how often we do something is important, so is what we do. Our habits, our practices are key. What we practice has an impact on what we do, how we think, how we live.

The first thing to know about our daily practices is that they can be bad or good. They can be small or big. It’s understanding that small things repeated over a period of time will either create success or failure over time. It will show itself through ongoing growth or the decaying of oneself through bad habits.

Another thing is that practice is a verb, it’s an active word. Practices are things we do consciously or subconsciously. We need to pay attention to them because they affect our lives whether we like it or not. In one shape or form, habits are driving your life, so let’s get intentional and make sure we are the ones driving our habits.

Practices are also driven from our belief and value system. What we believe or value will be reflected in how we live our lives. If you value health it will show, if you believe in investing in your growth you will do it. Our core values affect our personal life and also those around us. They will be your guiding compass on what you do, who you surround yourself with and how you think.

So, take a time out and take inventory of your daily practices. We all show up somewhere on purpose, there are no accidents. The questions is, will you like who you become or will you have regrets? Will your life be a compound of good or bad habits?

Remember The secret to your growth in all areas of your life is hidden in your daily practices.

The secret sauce is that there really isn’t a secret sauce. It’s not a secret it’s just practical things that everyone can do. You just have to choose to make it work for you not against you.

Know your values, do the right things, do them daily and then aim to do it well.

Grow as you go,
