What are you carrying into the new year? What are you carrying that’s getting very heavy and should be left behind? I’m a huge advocate of reflection and although I’ll encourage you to remember the wins and celebrate them, I also want you to remember the failures and the not so good things and ask yourself, what did I learn, and what am I going to do with it?

Let’s get a little more specific and real for a moment. Is there some brokenness in your life that’s following you from last year? Do you have some bitterness or unforgiveness towards someone? Are you letting someone’s opinion or negativity shape your future? Are your failures influencing your thinking and keeping you stuck? The list can be endless, but you pick that thing that’s not encouraging you and isn’t life giving. What are you doing about it?

Consider this. Your life is a journey. The journey ahead may have twists and turns, valleys and mountain tops and no-one can truly know what is on the horizon. This journey will require you to grow, change and learn. It will call the best out of you because this journey wants you to maximize your potential. So what are you bringing on the journey? Let me also say that what you don’t bring is just as important as what you do bring.

Here is my point. For some of us, it’s time to unload!

Some of us have backpacks on that have some unnecessary items in them. Even if you feel capable of carrying it, or it doesn’t seem too heavy, or you think “I’ll just deal with it later”. Stop and unload.

If you carry it for a long time or carry it in the wrong season, you will find it will break you. There can be a great price to pay for not unloading.

So go ahead and let go. It’s time to forgive, it’s time to cut ties with negativity. Let’s not find our identity in the past, let’s release the hurt, shame, and guilt. Let’s find rest. Consider unloading and replacing the baggage with things that will aid us on the journey. To name a few, let’s pick up gratitude, positivity, kindness, love, hope, encouragement, peace, rest, and new dreams.

Healing may not take place by simply unloading, but it’s a step on the journey. Reflect, identify, release and embrace the new.

What do you need to unload? Be courageous and do it. Your future self will thank you one day.

The more we unload the freer we will be to move ahead with clarity and direction.

Grow as you go!
